Color Me Rad is coming to Raleigh
Raleigh, NC – Get your throwing arms ready and pull out those white T-shirts, because the Color Me Rad 5K is coming to Raleigh! On Saturday, October 27, the Walnut Creek Amphitheater will see a rush of color like it has never seen before. Started in Utah in April 2012, the Color Me Rad race combines exercise and the fun of throwing powdered paint on everyone around you to create a fun and family-friendly event. The race occurs all over the country, but so far Raleigh has been the only sold out location. Runners get to the race in white T-shirts “as pure and white as your grandpa’s dentures,” according to the event website. After the hidden “color bombers” spray them down with paint and throw the color bombs at the runners, they will end the race “looking like a pack of Skittles.” People come to the race to walk, run, wear crazy costumes and throw paint, or to simply support the charities that the race sponsors. The intent when the race was created was to simply provide a fun event that benefits a great cause. Adam Clark and Wyatt Grow, along with other friends and colleagues, combined a few of their favorite things to make this a memorable event. Inspired by their corporate company’s annual mud run, “The Dirty Dash,” love of running, and a Hindu festival, Grow and Clark decided to make Color Me Rad happen. This Indian festival, Holi, is held at a Hari Krishna temple in Utah and it was the main inspiration for Color Me Rad. At this festival, large numbers of people attend this event to socialize, meditate, listen to music and also throw paint on one another. Although not quite a spiritual experience, Color Me Rad will benefit one particular organization, aside from being a fun event for all. Color Me Rad Raleigh will benefit the Special Olympics of North Carolina. Charities differ in each city, but Special Olympics is a common choice of those in charge of the race. Color Me Rad has generated a large response from runners, volunteers, and those interested in learning more about the event. The event race has managed to get over 130 volunteers to help with everything from handing out water and flyers, to throwing the “bombs.” Registration for the event is $40 and includes a Color Me Rad T-shirt, sunglasses, one color bomb, a race bib, and a donation to the sponsored charity. Runners also receive various types of promotional materials from event sponsors. People come to run in teams, to run alone or with strangers, or to just watch other people get bombarded with powdered paint. The race is not timed and there are no winners, to accommodate the children and first time racers. This will be a new and exciting experience for all who participate. Color Me Rad, while being a fairly young event, has picked up a large Internet presence with over 360,000 Facebook “likes,” growing more each day. There is sure to be a lot of talk about this race, and more to come in the future. Do not miss out on this great opportunity on Saturday. Get out here and throw some color!
